Working As a Web Designer

Web design encompasses a variety of disciplines and skills in the creation and maintenance of web sites. The various disciplines of web design cover web graphic design; web user interface design; creative web authoring; content writing and designing; and search engine optimizing. A web designer also specializes in a particular computer program such as Java or HTML or CSS. Web designers work in print, electronic, and online media. There are also web developers who create software programs for website development.

Web graphic design covers the process by which artists make images and other visual works on the Internet. Examples include web pages and advertisements. Web designers often do illustrations and photography. Web pages often have a graphic designer’s logo displayed prominently in the background. Some web designers use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks to develop web graphics.

The current job outlook for web designers is somewhat positive due to the growth of e-commerce. Many companies that have not yet started online are now realizing the importance of having an easily navigable site that sells their products. Web designers are needed in this transitional period, because they can make both complex and simple web pages with ease.

Many different aspects of web design work are done during the course of the project. The first step in web design work is User Research. This involves the collection of data from users who are seeking services on the Internet. Users may fill out an online form for information about a service, product, or company. Data is then analyzed to make decisions about the look of the site and whether or not to make it available to the public.

Usability testing is an important part of web designer jobs. It is the final step in the usability process and involves comparing the users’ experience with the design. Usability testing looks closely at how well users can use a website and search for information. This includes finding out if a site is easy to navigate and if the site is easy to follow and understand.

Interaction Design also takes into account user usability in its planning and execution. The interaction designer plans the design of web pages with the intent of making them easily used by the end user. They create menus, form fields, buttons, pop-up boxes, and other things that make it easy for users to complete a certain task. Many web designers work in conjunction with usability specialists or usability designers.

Web developers are not web designers but are often confused with them. They are responsible for coding the HTML and multimedia files so they are usable on a computer. Some web designers work solely as web developers, while others specialize in only one particular area such as creating software. Web developers are also the ones who will set up the website with coding so it works. Web developers will make sure that the site loads quickly and is visually appealing.

Both web designers and web developers have their own specialties. Web designers are responsible for creating the content, while the developers create the appearance of it. Even though there are more job opportunities for web designers than programmers there are more job openings for web designers than programmers. A web designer job outlook is expected to grow faster than most because there is a high demand for web designers in this field. In the past several years many people have begun to specialize in web design, which has helped them get better jobs.

Web designers and web developers do not usually communicate with clients directly but instead through an intermediary called a web designer or a web developer. Their job is to create websites by putting together various codes. The client does not need to know anything about programming in order to use the web development system that the web designers have created. These individuals often prefer to work independently as it is easier for them. Web designers will communicate directly with the customer and the web developer will take care of all the technical aspects of the coding of the site.

Web designers and web developers must be licensed and certified to do business in their line of work. This means they must meet the requirements of the state in which they wish to operate. Some states require web designers and developers to obtain a certificate in addition to a license. Certification is offered by a number of professional associations and companies.

Most web designers work freelance, which means they are hired and fired based on their performance. This can be a very stressful situation for the web designer as well as the client because no set pay structure exists and there is a chance they could get fired for being late. The client may be paying the web designer a substantial salary but the web designer might be working for a much smaller firm and the pay is not guaranteed. Both parties need to find an understanding of each other’s work and each party needs to understand what the other expects from the contract.
